"Absolutely Delicious!

The food was mouth watering. Our wait staff was more
than accommodating. It was by far the best sushi experience of my life! Grouper cheeks are delicious as well. My husband and I are going back to Islamorada for our anniversary just so we can eat dinner here."

"Excellent service and delicious food make it a winner."

We've been going to Kaiyo for years. It was our 10th anniversary so my wife made a reservation to celebrate.

Kaiyo recently changed their name and adjusted their menu somewhat. I was prepared to be less than happy. Luckily the change is in the addition of some items while leaving the things that keep bringing us back.

When we arrived we were seated in a corner table which was pretty dark. It wasn't a big deal but I had a bit of a hard time seeing the menu.

We started with the conch fritters and grouper cheeks. Both were excellent. The conch fritters had a good amount of conch and a slight sweetness to them which set them apart from your standard conch fritters. They came with a nice dipping sauce with a hint of heat.

The grouper cheeks were excellent and were served with a tangy smoky sauce which was similar to a hoi-sin sauce.

For our entrees I had hogfish done Cubana grilled style with a light crust and a tangy sweet sauce. The portion was generous and the fish was outstanding. It came with broccolini and jasmine rice.

Hogfish isn't an easy fish to find on most menus and Kaiyo has it just about every day. If you haven't tried it do yourself a favor and do so. It's one of the best eating fish out there.

My wife had the chardonnay chicken which was very tasty. We also ordered a side of the pina fried rice. It was delicious but my only gripe was that it can't be substituted for the jasmine rice but only ordered as a seperate side.

No one said a word about our anniversary so I asked for the check. Our waiter reappeared with a flaming candle sparkling like daylight atop a slice of their macadamia pie. It was heavenly. Sort of pecan pie like but much better. The crust was exceptionally crunchy, nutty and caramely in flavor.

Kaiyo isn't cheap but there's a reason it's one of our special upper Keys dining spots. Excellent service and delicious food make it a winner!

"Amazing, Amazing Amazing!"

All I could say after every bite I took was AMAZING!! My husband and I are major foodies and have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the country. We had intended to go to a different restaurant that night but found it was closed on Tues. and this was actually our second choice.....how lucky are we...we discovered a real gem!!! The food at Kaiyo Grill, for us, was as good as any place we have ever eaten and believe me that is a tall order!! They have a very unique bar that is designed to be eaten at so that was where we choose to be seated. Our waitress Terri was terrific. We asked for suggestions and she was very helpful. We started with the Macadamia Hogfish Roll Served with Mango, Pineapple, and Jean's Famous Mango Sauce. It was out of this world! I couldn't get enough of the mango sauce...it was absolutely mouth watering. Next, we had Alligator Light Hogfish which is a whole fish butterflied and stuffed with jumbo lump crabmeat, roasted in sake butter. It was served with rice and the combination of flavors was mind blowing...we shared this dish and with each and every bite we took we looked at each other and took turns raving to each other how good it was!! I almost forgot, as we were waiting for our meal to arrive, an order of wonderful looking onion rings went by so we asked for an order of them too.......wow....what a great choice. They were served with yet another great sauce.....a light wasabi sauce that added a great dimension to the flavor of the rings. Another flavor winner.

All in all, we couldn't have had a better meal. I understand their chef "Matt" is fairly new and he is responsible for some of the new dishes. I couldn't believe that Kaiyo Grill wasn't listed as the #1 restaurant in the Keys....maybe as more people get to experience the delicious creations it soon will be!!!

"Sushi and Fresh Fish Are Great"

We have vacationed in Islamorada for the past 6 years, and have never eaten at Kaiyo. We ate here this time on advice of friends. We had our meal outside, which I recommend, and were not disappointed. We had seaweed, edamame, various sushi (tempura shrimp was a favorite) and the yellow snapper. Service was just right--not too fast and not too slow. Wine list is not extensive but varied and reasonable. Reserve outside a few days in advance and you will have a nice experience.  ~ Diners who posted on TripAdvisor.com;

"What a wonderful evening!!

The food was outstanding, Bill is still talking about how great the hogfish and crab was!!!!!!!  We have called several friends to tell them the new Kaiyo/Grill would be an excellent dinner stop.  Thank you for the invitation please let the chef know his hard work was most appreciated. Your staff was also great.

Happy Thanksgiving,"
